DKZOR Pressure Valve Failure Points and What They Mean — Atos

Atos’ DKZOR series proportional pressure valves regulate system pressure in proportion to an electrical command signal, and like any proportional pressure control, they have a handful of predictable failure points. Knowing where to look first can save significant diagnostic time before a valve reaches a repair bench.

Pilot Stage Contamination

The DKZOR’s pilot stage operates on tight clearances to regulate pressure accurately, which makes it sensitive to particulate contamination in the hydraulic fluid. Contamination lodged in the pilot section is one of the most common causes of pressure instability, slow response, or a valve that won’t settle at a commanded pressure — and it’s almost always tied back to fluid cleanliness rather than a defective valve.

Proportional Solenoid Wear

The proportional solenoid driving the pilot stage sees constant electrical cycling, and heat or vibration over time can degrade the coil windings. Symptoms include inconsistent pressure output at a given command signal or a solenoid that draws current but produces reduced force — often mistaken for a wiring or amplifier fault rather than a coil issue.

Pressure Drift Under Load

A DKZOR that holds pressure correctly at low flow but drifts as system flow increases often points to wear at the main poppet or seat rather than the pilot stage or electronics. This type of load-dependent drift is a useful diagnostic clue, since it narrows the likely cause to the main stage before any teardown begins.

Feedback and Calibration Drift

On DKZOR variants with integrated pressure feedback, a gradual shift in the pressure-to-command relationship usually points to feedback sensor drift rather than a mechanical fault. This can look identical to a mechanical wear issue from the outside, which is why isolating the feedback signal is an important step before condemning the pilot or main stage.

Why Bench Testing Matters

Because these failure points produce overlapping symptoms, an accurate repair starts with isolating whether the fault is in the pilot stage, the main poppet, the solenoid, or the feedback loop.
